Shinrin-Koen Golf Club in Japan Plays Host

14th November 2016

The 2016 World Championships took place at the beautiful Shinrin-Koen Golf Club, Japan, on 9 and 10 November. Fourteen Japanese competitors were joined by a further 41 from eleven countries.

The course was in great condition and although a cold wind blew no rain fell during the event.

The standard of golf was better than ever with low scores required to win in all categories. Several nett scores in the mid to low 60's were recorded on both days of competition.

Zohar Sharon (Israel) successfully defended the B1 category Championship with a two round total of 199. Once again Andrea Calcaterra (Italy) finished runner up on 213.

The winner in the B2 Gross category taking the Championship on a second day countback was Jeremy Poinsenot (USA) with a score of 176. Derek Kibblewhite (Canada) was second.

With the lowest two round score of 170 Paul Appleyard (England and Wales) won the B3's with Cameron McDiarmid (Scotland) on 176 runner up.

The overall nett winner for men was Japanese golfer Toshio Karasawa on 129, a clear 5 shots ahead of Jeremy Poinsenot.

In the Ladies' Championships Linda Port (USA) won both the gross and nett prizes scoring 177/143 with Jenny McCallum (Australia) a double second with 208/144.

All the participants - players, guides/coaches and supporters thoroughly enjoyed the whole event. The wonderful hospitality and organising ability of the Japanese Blind Golf Association was very much appreciated by everyone.
