Mario Tobia: IBGA Director

IBGA Director, Mario was born in Teramo, Italy and migrated to the United States as a young child. He was educated in the U.S., earning a degree in Computer Science, and pursued a successful career as a Computer Engineer, advancing to the position of Director of Information Technology.

At the age of forty, Mario lost his sight but continued his professional career with the Department of Veterans Affairs and the New Jersey Commission for the Blind.

In these roles, he trained visually impaired and blind veterans to use computers, iPhones, and iPads with adaptive software and mobile technology.

In addition to his current role as IBGA Chairman, Mario previously served as IBGA Vice Chairman of Administration, where he oversaw communication with national secretaries to ensure smooth operations, timely issue resolution, and effective coordination between the board and member associations.

Mario has also served the blind golf community in the United States for many years. He has been President of the Middle Atlantic Blind Golf Association (MABGA) since 2015 and previously served as Vice President of the United States Blind Golf Association (USBGA) under two different administrations.

As a golfer, Mario is a B1 player, a five-time USBGA National Champion, and has competed in the last five World Championships, placing fourth in the last four events.
